Dr. Alfredo Lopez-Yunez is native of Colombia where he trained in medicine at the Javeriana University School of Medicine and in Clinical Genetics at the National University of Colombia. He served for two years in Tolu, Colombia as a general practitioner and helped organize their healthcare system as well as the management of the Cholera epidemic.

He moved to the United States in 1993 to complete his studies in Neurology at Loyola University in Chicago and in Cerebrovascular Disease at Indiana University. He became an assistant professor of neurology, coordinated numerous scientific trials in stroke and started the first dedicated stroke unit in Indiana. He has been a member of the Global Health Innovation Group of Stanford University since 2017. He completed a Public Service fellowship at New York University.
